I created an augmented reality (AR) face filter inspired by and adapted from traditional metalwork motifs and designs. I adapted sketches into 3D models, constructed the digital materiality, then imported them into Lens Studio, the AR filter creation software made by Snapchat. The filters can be used within the Snapchat app or on a phone or computer browser through this link.
As part of my larger thesis project exploring the ever-shifting function of ornament, Ornament Embodied is an inquiry into the characteristics of self-ornament in the 21st century. In a world that is rapidly digitized and hypercommodified, how has the ability to embody one’s own identity changed?
